Bio
Welcome from the Principal
My name is Alisa Huffaker, and I am honored to serve as the Principal of R. L. Young Elementary School. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Alabama. I later received certification in Educational Administration from the University of Alabama. I am a National Board Certified Early Childhood Generalist. These experiences have provided me with both classroom expertise and leadership skills, guiding my work in supporting students, teachers, and the school community.
My career in education began as a third-grade teacher and has grown through a variety of roles that have shaped my passion for teaching and learning. I have served as a reading interventionist, kindergarten teacher, ARI Reading Coach, Instructional Partner, Local Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal, and now Principal. Each of these experiences has deepened my understanding of how children learn and strengthened my commitment to supporting teachers, families, and students.
In addition to my role as Principal, I am grateful for the many roles that bring joy and purpose to my life. I am the proud wife of my husband, Billy, and the mother of two wonderful sons, Billy and Collin. Our family has grown to include my wonderful daughters-in-law, C.J. and Haley, and I am especially blessed to be “Mimi” to four precious grandchildren—Case, Zoe, Luke, and Drake. In my free time, I enjoy singing at church, traveling, and spending time with my family.
At R. L. Young Elementary, I am also deeply committed to making a positive impact in the lives of children every single day. We are committed to providing a safe, joyful, and engaging environment where every child is known, valued, and supported. Through strong relationships, intentional and engaging instruction, as well as purposeful play, we help children build the academic and social-emotional skills they need to thrive in school and beyond. These formative years are a powerful time to nurture curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
I welcome the opportunity to connect with parents, students, and community members. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas. I can be contacted at [email protected] or 256-315-5705.
